The library’s Martin-Wall History Room contains a treasure trove of resources on Davie County history and families. The late Flossie Martin and county historian, James Wall, were instrumental in founding this collection of local history and genealogy works. Doris Frye built on their work for over a decade. Browse the print collection including general genealogy books, Davie County census records, cemetery records, and marriages, as well as specific family histories. View microfilm records of Davie County newspapers dating back to the early 1900s.Check our surname file for copies of articles and obituaries of Davie residents. We also maintain files of articles of local and regional interest.

Non-Davie County residents may request information and copies via mail, phone, or email. Due to limited staff size, we cannot perform extensive searches or copying. Please be specific in research requests. A research fee of $5.00 covers research, up to 10 copies, postage and phone charges. Requests will be handled as expeditiously as possible.

Of special note are several books available for purchase: History of Davie County in the forks of the Yadkin by James W. Wall, and The historic architecture of Davie County, North Carolina by Kirk Franklin Mohney. Each book costs $26.75 + $3.00 shipping. Also available is the re-printed Davie County Heritage book for $40 plus $5.00 shipping. Books on Davie County marriages, cemeteries, and census records, published by the Davie County Historical and Genealogical Society, are also available for sale; call the library for prices. The Davie County Cemeteries book indices for Volume I and Volume II are now online; you may browse the indices but cannot search them. Nancy Kelly Murphy, History Room volunteer, was instrumental in researching and compiling these books for the Historical Society.

Several maps are available for purchase: Hughes Historical Documentation Map (pre-1800) ($7.00), the Lagle Land Grant Map (late 1700s) ($7.00), and the 1887 Alderman map ($2.70). Andrew Lagle's work in researching and creating the Davie land grant map was recognized and honored by the Historical Society with a memorial plaque to the library.

Patrons also have access to two online genealogy databases: HeritageQuest may be used from inside the library or a remote location; Ancestry may be used while inside the library. Search for ancestors in U.S. census records, books, Persi, Social Security Death Index, some immigration records, and the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Application files. See Databases for more information on these resources.
